FALL BASEBALL RULES & REGULATIONS
Schedules
- All game times final unless weather hinders play.
- Schedule will not be changed
- Rainouts will be called at least 1 hour before game time. Games will be rescheduled as possible
- In the event of a rainout, both teams involved may use FVSA academy areas free of charge during game times as space is available
- Any team unable to field a team within 15 minutes of scheduled game time forfeits their game time
- Game Length is 1 hour 45 minutes; no inning may start after 1 hour 30 minutes; when time limit is reached current inning will be played out.
- Regular season games may end in a tie
Rosters
- Minimum roster size is 9
- All players must have all fees paid and all waivers and paperwork complete to FVSA by first game unless other arrangements made with FVSA
- Teams unable to field a team may add enough players to their roster as long as they meet these criteria
- Proof of proper age requirements
- Not listed on any other roster in same division
- Coaches may use free substitution in order to allow all players ample playing time on the field
Equipment
- Each team will be supplied with game balls. Additional new game balls are available with the return of used balls
- Helmets/ catcher’s gear will be available at game locations for use during games only. Gear must be returned to its proper location at the end of each day
- Bat requirements will be outlined in each division’s outline
Umpires
- All umpires will be provided for by FVSA
- Trout Park Baseball Umpires Utilized.
- Umpire’s Judgment calls are final. FVSA will back up rulings 100%
- Game protests are not allowed or heard. FVSA representatives will be available during tournament for official rulings
- All umpire attitude issues or rulings outside of the framework of the game itself will be heard and dealt with by FVSA and corresponding umpire organization. Coaches, parents, or players should not take these matters up with umpires personally
- Any coach or player ejected for any reason may not be eligible for tournament play. Issues will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
- Non-sportsmanlike conduct (i.e. swearing, damaging equipment, fighting, berating and belittling of players, taunting) is grounds for ejection
Fields
- All fields are provided by volunteers and workers who strive to have the fields ready on a daily basis.
- Please be respectful of their work/ do not vandalize or litter the field
- Clean up dugouts when your game is over
Scoring
- Standings are not recorded
- Tournament pairings were randomly seeded before any games were played
- Scoring and reporting of results will be in effect at tournament time
- Trophies will be awarded to the tournament champions
16-18 Division/ Using IHSA Summer League Rules
- Batting
Each team will be allowed the use of a DH (designated hitter) to bat in the place of any player on the field.
Each team will be allowed the use of an EH (extra hitter) bringing the number of batters in your lineup to 10.
Bats must pass IHSA guidelines (2 5/8” barrel, minus 3 length to weight ratio and be BESR certified).
- Pitching
Pitchers must have at least 1 days rest between appearances.
- Mercy Rule
Any team behind by 10 or more runs after 5 innings may invoke the mercy rule/ optional.

- Batting

- League will employ continuous batting order up to 12 players.
- Teams over 12 have the option of batting all roster players.
- If opponent has less than 12 available players, coach has option of only batting an equal number of players.
- Bats may not exceed 2 3/4 inches in diameter.
Bats may be made of metal or wood.
- Base running
- Player must slide at all bases (except 1B) when a play is being made.
- Base runner must use effort to avoid incidental contact on the base paths.
- Pitching
- Pitcher is allowed to pitch a maximum of 3 innings per game and 6 per week (Monday thru Sunday).
- Any pitcher who exceeds 2 hit batsmen per inning/ 3 per game must be removed.
- After the second coaches trip to the mound pitcher must be removed.
- Pitcher will be given 1 warning in the event he commits a balk/ Umpire will explain infraction.
- Second offense will result in runner advancing 1 base.
- Pitcher must have at least 1-day rest between appearances.
- Mercy rule
- Any team behind by 15 runs after 4 innings (7 innings is a complete game) or 10 runs after 5 innings may invoke mercy rule/optional.
- Field
Dimensions are 90’ bases and 60’ mound
